Haul & News – 3 May 2014

I’ve decided that each weekend shall be the time I take to discuss books I’ve received to review and/or books I’ve bought the week before, and any news that particular caught my interest.

Books Received:

  • Guardian (Veiled Worlds, #3) by Jo Anderton (review) from FableCroft Publishing
  • Magic City: Recent Spells edited by Paula Guran (review) from Prime Books on NetGalley

Guardian – I finally got around to reading Debris by Jo Anderton recently, and now I’ve received the third book to review! This means I’ll need to read the second book, Suited, in a hurry! It helps that the author is a lovely person. More information on this books is below, as I already had this book listed under cover reveals!

Magic City: Recent Spells – This caught my eye as it features authors such as Scott Lynch, Elizabeth Bear, Holly Black, Nancy Kress, Catherynne M. Valente and Aussies Angela Slater and Lucy Sussex – and a whole lot of others I enjoy or otherwise want to try.

I think some (or all?) of these short stories are reprints (I know Scott Lynch’s piece In The Stacks is a reprint… and was my favourite by him until A Year and a Day in old Theradane came along… and Elizabeth Bear’s piece The Slaughtered Lamb also appeared in The Modern Fae’s Guide to Surviving Humanity … but even if all are reprints, I surely haven’t read them all yet, and it’s sure to be a gripping collection. I hope in my review to list where each was first published.

Links of Notice

  • Alisa discusses why your words matter. Why twitter may not be the best place to speak up, even if you do have a point that needs to be presented. She speaks (writes) well on this, and handles it all very well.
